Escape
By Crystal Tan, Yibo Fu, and An Kong
Our game Escape was inspired by the idea of people's addiction to social media today. We want to create this game to reflect on how people obsess with posting on social media and seeing others' reactions to their posts. We want to send out the message that we should embrace our imperfections in reality and prevent deceiving ourselves by others' judgments on social media.
Try to get enough "likes" on social media platforms and avoid "dislikes" and bad feedbacks to get through levels. In the last level, the "likes" of the post will become the energy of the big boss which is the imagined and unreal-self on social media. You have to beat the big boss to get back to reality.
Press ↑ ← → to move, space to jump, and right shift to fire. Enjoy!

As many has mentioned, I'm going to reiterate how much I like the concept of social media trolling. The animation is so smooth and the gameplay feels smooth. I also like the design of the final boss even though I was unable to see it myself(maybe in the future haha). Very cute game and super relatable!
I really love the concept, especially the irony that the more likes you collected in the beginning, the harder it is to beat the boss! People would think it'll be better to collect as much likes as possible, which will unexpectedly pay back at the end! It is a lot harder compared to the playtest for some reason, I can't get to the top lol. It'll be even better with some background music!
hey guys! love the smiley face its animated really well, and enjoy the story/game concept a lot :) one thing that came up for me when i was playing was that by controlling the jump, it seems like i can go from social media boxes directly to other social media boxes, so wanted to see what the game would feel like if the player needs to go on the chat bubbles on their way. as others said, more music could be fun--very nice overall!
ohhhhh the graphic style is sooooo much better! I love it and also the concept! It's so easy to understand and play with! The jump is so very smoooooth! I really like this setup !
This is a novel idea and I enjoyed it! I love that the levels blend with one another and you don't notice because you are having so much fun. I think some background music would be nice and some of the social media boxes didn't have likes or dislikes. The sound effect is a bit too loud and hurt my ears. Overall, spectacular job.
The concept communicates really well with the visuals! The bubbly smiley face animation is my favorite. I wonder if the background was a different shade or color when you moved up levels, it would be more explicit that you were progressing forward. But I like how the game carries a message that many people can relate to!
The concept is great! We are stuck in our social media and care about it more than real life, so unfortunate. I like the character animation when you jump, it's so cute! And I like how you make it go up instead of just going horizontal, so it makes sense when you fall and lose in media space. I tried my best, but I died a lot hahaha! Still can’t reach the final boss, but I’ll try to make it!
Some things to consider: as some people mention it would be great to have some background music as well as maybe some sounds on ‘dislikes’? Because sometimes you see them only when you jump on them and you die immediately. Maybe it’s also a good thing to have several lives? So when you get hit you can continue, but have fewer lives. Maybe jumping is also a little bit too high, since you have a double jump you can accidentally hit ‘dislikes’ you don’t see on screen. Overall, great concept and game!
Really like the animation of the player which makes the game looks more vivid and attractive. Also the uncertainty of game really interesting. Heres are some suggestions: add some background music, change the dead scene font, also add some transform between each level will be good! good job and interesting game
Very Interesting concept! I liked it during the playtest round. After you guys added the background image and stylings, it's more accomplished. One thing I really like about this game is that when I lose, I can press the space key(jump) to restart the game, it's really convenient for players to try again. I may integrate this feature in my future game designs. Very nice job!
Wooooo I really love this idea!! The whole concept really stands out, and jumping within social media bubbles is really a smart way to created levels. The sound and animation are also refreshing and fits your style really well. As someone who tries to stay away from social media platforms, I resonate with your topic a lot!! Really good work!
