Triviality
Creator: Crystal & An
We make this game to reveal our fear as women in everyday life. Both Crystal and I are Chinese so problems revealed in this game are based more on Chinese content. Don’t get me wrong. None of us is living in the shadow of any men nor any political groups. I am happy every day as a woman but also fear every day about the things that might happen to me. This game is about this fear.

Great to see the development of the game, since the last time playtest. The story behind this game is realistic and worth thinking deeply. When I play this game, I can feel what you guys want to convey to players since the story is in the game. "The higher we climbs, the greater the responsibility".
Like what I said in class that I feel so related to this topic. I like the way how you guys do the narrative through the change of the elements of each stage. The sound effect also makes the player be simulated into the scenes. Great job!
I'm in love with the concept and gameplay of this game. The idea of making the playable character a puppet and that the player has no direct control of the puppet is so creative and works perfectly with the concept. I feel everything in this game just works so well together and communicates the theme creatively and powerfully. Awesome job and super unforgettable.
Hey guys this is a wonderful game and i think you're really coming up with your own unique way of conveying femenist ideas! I myself resonate a lot with the senarios you set in the game, like taking photos, having comments on my dressings and so on, and I really do like how you reflet that onto the charater. I also want to mention when i open this page, the color and fonts really speaks for your game, that it's a bit depressing and beautiful at the same time....
I love the collage styled visuals that mix your drawing and processed photographs because they serve your theme perfectly. It exaggerates the cold and terrifying reality. As I said in class, the sound effects are really intense and I like them. But they are also a bit repetitive and abrupt, to be honest. Maybe you'd wanna adjust the frequency of playing some of the sound clips.
Hi guys, this game had definitely a spooky and uncomfortable feel to it when I was playing, and it works out well with the message you're trying to get across with the game. Few things to consider:
1. Instruction telling what to do
2. Have more lives? or make it so that both hands have to get detached instead of just one hand (too easy to die)
3. do i need to collect the ropes to win? or can i just go up ?
Good work!! :)
The concept of the game is very strong! Discussing such a big and heavy topic using game as a medium is smart because game makes players concentrate on what they are doing and they have to play this game very carefully. Such an experience really can make players retrospect on the topic.
I really appreciate your team's concept, and your effort of including the LGBT+ group in your game! One thing about the game control is that sometimes if I place the hand to a new position it immediately drop down, after checking your trailer I think that situation is not meant to happen, maybe it is the problem of the web build? I think your game is pretty complete, I'm looking to see more of your work in the future!
I was very impressed and felt heavy when playing your game. It's a meaningful and important topic around women's identity and rights, especially in China. I think you did a great job creating a related visual theme to this game; I also enjoyed the music and sound effect. Very nice job!
Last playtest it was a bit confusing to figure out how to navigate but now with the hands it makes much more sense! It also kind of reminds me of marionettes which goes well with the concept. I think even though you mention it's based on Chinese problems, there are general ideas of traditional role of women that I could also relate to. Amazing concept and very well-executed!!
Oh, I love how you improve your game since the last playtest! This also reminds me of the topic of traditional social expectations towards women and how hard it is to break if your family sticks with ‘rules.’ I love the sounds you pasted, they create a little fear, but curiosity at the same time. I also like that you changed the chains and the hands, so we really feel like manipulating a poor mannequin. I also like that you created this inverse win of breaking the chains and falling instead of going up and listening to the rules. Great concept and your gameplay and endings accurately represent the idea.
